HÀ NỘI — Phú Mỹ Plastics Production JSC will be the first company in Việt Nam to use modern technology developed by Honeywell - listed on global Fortune 100’s software-industrial companies - to make propylene, one of the most important materials used for making plastics.

The plant in Vũng Tàu Province is expected to produce 306,000 metric tonnes of propylene per year. It will help meet growing domestic demand for plastic and other countries in Southeast Asia.

“This new capacity will enable Việt Nam to meet its own rapidly growing domestic demand for plastics, supplanting propylene products that it currently imports,” said Jose Miramontes, regional general manager of Honeywell UOP Asia Pacific.

Honeywell will provide technology for the process design package, proprietary and non-proprietary equipment, on-site operator training, technical services for start-up and continuing operation, and proprietary catalysts and adsorbents.

The technology offers low-energy consumption, low emissions and a fully recyclable system to help minimise its impact on the environment.

Including this project, Honeywell’s technology has been selected for a majority of propane and isobutane dehydrogenation projects awarded globally since 2011.

Phú Mỹ Plastics Production JSC is mainly engaged in the manufacture and sale of plastic packaging. The company’s leading products include laminated polypropylene and polyethylene bags and flexible intermediate bulk containers. These products are consumed in Việt Nam and exported to overseas markets, including Brazil, France, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. — VNS
