HCM CITY — The Cần Thơ City and Vĩnh Long Province education and training departments have signed a memorandum of understanding with Nestlé under which the company will sponsor school sports activities starting this year.

It is part of the “Active Việt Nam” programme launched in 2016 by Nestlé in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, the steering committee of the national programme for "Enhancing the Stature and Endurance of Vietnamese People in the period 2011-30”.

The programme seeks to encourage a dynamic lifestyle and physical activity in the community, especially among children aged between six and 17.

Cần Thơ and Vĩnh Long are the first localities in the Mekong Delta to participate in the programme.

Under the agreement, Nestlé’s MILO brand will host school football festivals, basketball tournaments for high school students and walking festivals and gift a total of 50 basketball boards and 20 football goal posts to schools.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Cần Thơ on January 15, Ngũ Duy Anh, director of the Ministry of Education and Training’s physical education department, said: “This activity is entirely in line with the Government’s policy to promote socialisation in promoting school sports activities, especially in remote and disadvantaged areas."

Also at the ceremony, Nestlé received a Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for its contributions to the development of sports in the community in 2013-18. — VNS
