Standard Chartered Bank Donates $200,000, Masks For Vietnam COVID-19 Fight And Relief Efforts

Standard Chartered Bank has made donations in cash of $200,000 and in kind to support the COVID-19 prevention and relief efforts in Vietnam.

It has donated VND2 billion ($85,200) to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases for buying critical medical equipment, $81,800 to the Saigon Children’s Charity for supporting disadvantaged children, and $33,000 to non-profit Aide et Action for supporting ethnic minority children.

It has also donated 70,000 surgical masks to Duc Giang general Hospital and Cho Ray Hospital for frontline workers and patients.

It has solicited donations by employees to provide short-term relief and longer-term assistance to communities in its 59 markets, including Vietnam.

Nirukt Sapru, CEO Vietnam and Asean and South Asia Cluster Markets, said: “Supporting communities has always been a core focus of our brand promise ‘Here for good’, especially during challenging times like these. We hope that the donations will offer meaningful assistance to the fight against COVID-19 in Vietnam and help communities recover from the impact of the pandemic.”

The bank is also lending a helping hand to its clients.

It has identified a number of Vietnamese businesses to benefit from $1 billion it has earmarked for lending to companies that provide goods and services to fight COVID-19.

It has also implemented a set of relief measures to support its corporate banking and retail banking clients such as through waiver or reduction of interest, loans and moratorium on loan repayment.
