Sacombank Makes QR Code Strides

Sacombank and Japan’s JCB International Co, Ltd on Monday signed an agreement to deploy the latter’s QR code payment system and launch the Sacombank JCB platinum debit card.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Tomoaki Yamaguchi, chief representative of JCB International Vietnam, said: “Sacombank is one of the first partners of JCB globally to launch the JCB QR code payment solution for JCB cardholders and the first bank in Vietnam to launch JCB Platinum Debit card.”

The QR code payment service allows Sacombank JCB cardholders to use their mobile devices (mobile phones/iPads) to scan QR codes to pay at stores quickly and safely.

Holders of JCB cards issued by other banks can also make payments using the QR codes at point of sale associated with Sacombank.

Sacombank has a network of more than 2,500 merchants and plans to increase the figure by 30-40 per cent this year.

Nguyen Minh Tam, deputy CEO of Sacombank, said the bank has always been a pioneer in applying modern payment technologies and was the first bank in Vietnam to issue contactless Visa cards and use the QR payment method for international cards.

“Sacombank is honoured to be the first bank in Vietnam and the world to cooperate with international card organisation JCB to carry out [its] international standard QR code payment method. Besides, we are pleased to introduce Sacombank JCB Platinum debit cards to high-end customers.”

Sacombank-JCB Platinum debit card holders will get privileges, including access to more than 60 airport lounges in Japan, mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Republic of Korea, Thailand and Vietnam, 24/7 global support through a free hotline and up to 50 per cent discounts on domestic and foreign spending.

Tomoaki said: “We hope that these new products will not only help create a new payment lifestyle but also become a strong tool to realise a cashless society.”
