4 Vietnamese Banks Reach The Top Of Asias Best Workplaces

On the evening of July 10, HR Asia, one of the leading human resources (HR) magazines in Asia, announced the list of “Best Workplaces in Asia” during the HR Asia Awards 2019 awards ceremony. This is an annual award organised in the UAE, China, Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, etc. and this year is the second year held in Vietnam.

Vietnam had hundreds of businesses from different industries registered in this poll. Particularly, the banking sector had four names that had been promoted, namely HCM City Development Joint Stock Commercial Bank (HDBank), Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank (ACB), Vietnam Prosperity Joint-Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank) and Saigon Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB), in addition, there were two foreign banks operating in Vietnam which were also considered as good working places: Shinhan Bank (Korea) and Standard Chartered (England).

HR Asia’s best workplace in 2019 is awarded to HR Asia for businesses with attractive personnel remuneration policies, ideal working environment and regularly organising internal activities to engage employees. The award once recognised a number of international companies with good working environments such as Microsoft, Unilever, Starbucks, etc.

In 2019, the magazine used a combination of different evaluation models, each with a certain scale, then aggregated and produced the final result. Total Engagement Assessment Model to examine employee satisfaction with their workplace based on three factors: Core (HR structure), Self (individual ) and Group (collective).

A representative of a bank said that the organisers worked very well and thoroughly, from reading documents submitted by banks, listening to the bank presentations and conducting interviews with participating companies, then deciding on the rating.

According to the survey results of HR Asia, in the personal item, HDBank staff expressed satisfaction and desire to stick with the bank for a long time when being evaluated in terms of expertise, respect for personal opinion, well-trained and advanced, participating in dynamic internal activities. In addition, the success of the working environment was also evident in the spirit of willingness to support colleagues, respect and trust each other, confidently expressing their own thoughts and opinions. In all three categories of bank competition, HDBank achieved almost absolute scores and higher than the banking industry average (4.55/3.77 Core point, 4.61/4.06 Self point and 4.66/4.13 Group point).

Not only is Asia’s best place to work, HDBank had always committed to creating a fulcrum for workers on welfare and career roadmap. Employees were guaranteed a stable income, the bank encouraged all individuals to increase productivity and efficiency in completing jobs. In addition, benefits such as unsecured loan, health insurance, medical examination and treatment programme at prestigious hospitals were also focused by the human resources department. As of March 31, HDBank had 6,041 employees working across the country. Percentage of senior staff over five years reached 34 percent.

Meanwhile ACB was one of the units focused on training and retraining skills for young personnel and managers. The bank also invested in a learning centre and for an integrated management system for human resources.

SHB was also highly appreciated by HR Asia for its emphasis on personnel, considering it a core element in the process of expansion and development.

For VPBank, the application of new management model and development of performance evaluation processes was considered to be outstanding. Accordingly, VPBank’s remuneration system was linked to personal performance, fairness and competition.

The honor of HR Asia for HDBank, ACB, SHB, VPBank and foreign banks in Vietnam showed that the ideal working environment was one of the strong points for financial institutions to directly affirm their success in integration.
